I thought 39 would be too late for a career change.
I thought changing careers meant failure.
I thought I was letting others down because my life was moving in a different direction.
I’ve come to realize, people are not thinking about me.
I’ve come to realize, my time is valuable, and my days are numbered.
In 2023, I learned that I CAN launch a business at 39 years old, and it IS successful.
Changing careers means I’m being honest with myself.
Following my dreams means I haven’t let anyone down.
In fact, my family sees my determination and discipline, and they are who I’m doing this for.
My time with them is precious, and the freedom of entrepreneurship is priceless!
From the time I started working up until 2018, I had only had a couple jobs. The olden-days mindset of stay with one job forever and then retire and then live your life was drilled into my brain. After being with one job for nearly 16 years, I made a career change in 2018. And then when COVID hit in 2020, things changed again, but I tried hanging on to where I was because I have to stay with this job forever, and then I'll retire, and then I'll live my life.
Well, in addition to my priorities changing because of COVID, my heart was changing too. After being forced to be home with my family because of quarantine, and after being forced to homeschool my kids because I had to, the transition of my own heart's desires underwent a drastic shift. I started to like being home all the time and being with my family all the time. I had been a career-woman my entire adult life. I had never experienced what it was like to be a stay-at-home mom. I feel like I have this chance to redeem myself and be the mom I never was.
And let me be honest, I look back now and realize how career-obsessed I was. I put my career before my family, and I never thought twice about it. Fast forward to 2024, and I've left corporate America, started my own business, and I homeschool my kids because I love it, not because I have to. It is beautiful. And I can't imagine life any other way.
This year I turned 40, and we all know about THOSE changes, amiright?! Things continue to evolve in my personal health, my personal life, my business life and everything in between. But I must say, taking the leap to work from home and homeschool has been an absolute game-changer for me and my family. Age is just a number. It took years for me to realize that I can make changes in my professional life, and nobody really cares except me. I stayed determined to start something, with a goal to finish it, keep it going, and continue to make it better. And here I am doing it! I hope this story inspires you to follow your dreams and stay determined, regardless of your age.
